After yesterday's long day, I
decided to sleep in. Thy picked me up right on time at 9 a.m.
This morning we are heading to the lake for a boat ride. The boat
ride will cost $20. Along the way, we drive some very poor
people. Poverty is everywhere. At the boat, 2 young guys take
us out. Thy tells me about the different villages on the water
and about the fishermen. The village consists of Cambodians and
Vietnamese. He shows me the difference about how the boat houses
are built. It's a very interesting trip. The day is sunny, but
the breeze is cool.
After going through the canals, we made it out to the lake.
It is very big. On our way back in, we stop at a place that
has fish on display and some crocodiles. They throw some fish
food, and the fish go crazy trying to get to it. Thy and I had
some very fresh boiled shrimp. It was pretty good, but the
shrimp are very small.

I asked Thy to take me to a
souvenir shop. It was a good one, but thing were pretty
expensive. I wanted to buy a sandstone Buddha, but it weighed too
much. So I bought a marble Aspara, which weighs too much. No
more heavy items! For lunch, we drove down the road a bit and
stopped. This place will provide Thy with his lunch. I have
chicken curry.
Next, onto Banteay Srey. It was a pretty good
drive to get to this temple, but well worth it. I saw many
tourists biking, not something I would do. Too far. Out of all
the temples I have seen, the details of this carving are the
best.

Our next stop is one of the more
famous, Pa Thom. It is also known as the Jungle Temple. Here,
the trees are growing out of the temple, tearing many of them
apart. This temple was made for the King's mother.

One more thing before we leave the
area - a balloon ride. $11. Not bad. The view was terrific. The
balloon is tethered, so you go up, take a bunch of pictures, and
go back down. Definitely worth doing!

Some random thoughts on
Cambodia. You should visit. Tons of new hotels are being built. No
shortage of hotel rooms. Thy recommends the Angkor Star - it's
across the street from the dancers. Not as cheap as Thailand. If
you need a guide, contact Thy at
vengsothy@yahoo.com.
I would highly recommend him.
Another great day! |
