A few notes before we begin:
  • Read the finale if you are thinking about going to Ireland.
  • I took over 500 pictures on this trip. Navigating the website is a little difficult at times, so get use to hitting your back button.
  • I used a lot of text from the Lonely Planet book. Please buy their books so they don't sue me for copyright violations.

Flights were fine. Delayed in St. Louis to get someones luggage off, but no problem. We had two hours in Boston to kill. Flight on Aer Lingus was OK. Had a couple of drinks. Got off airplane and through customs without any troubles. Got the car. It was raining and dark. So, we took off at 7 in the morning, no sleep, and no idea on how the car worked.
We maneuvered around just fine. Ty was good on the driving. Couldn't find Carrigafoyle Castle, even after driving down a bunch of unknown roads. We finally made it to our first destination, Rattoo Round Tower without any problems. It was raining fairly hard, but we were doing just fine.

Kerry's only complete round tower has six floors and is in fine condition. The top windows face the four points of the compass to act as lookouts for raiders, suggesting that this was a wealthy monastic site in the 9th and 10th centuries. Nothing else remains from that era on this site. To the east are the ruins of a 15th-century church. Lonely Planet

After successfully finding our first destination, we headed out to the Dingle Peninsula. We drove through Tralee, which looking like very nice town. Now it's raining hard and the mountains are covered in fog. We are beginning to feel the effects of being up forever, but we journey onward.
We continued on into Dingle to the aquarium, which is a small, but nice place. We had lunch at a little café on the bay. They had some good chowder. Now we are really tired.

After leaving Dingle, we drove along the southern coast of the peninsula. It was a very beautiful place, but by now, all we are interested in was getting to Blarney.

Finally, we got to Blarney. After a while, we finally found The Gables. Anne was nice. We took a nap, and then went into Blarney. A quick walk over to see the castle then to Blarney Woolen Mills. If you looking for gifts, this is the place to go.

For dinner, we ate at the Blarney Woollen Mills Grill Bar. Ty had the seafood grill, which was great. I had beef stew, good. Letty had a bacon cheeseburger. After dinner, we went to Christy's Bar for a pint. Nice quiet place to watch a soccer match. Then back to The Gables.
