The flight to Houston and onto San Jose was quick
and uneventful. Flying time from Houston to Costa Rica was only 3
1/2 hours - basically time for one movie and lunch. As soon as Lisa
and I got off the plane, we made a dash for immigrations. The line
is always long and the sooner you get there, the better. Getting through
immigration and customs was very quick. The luggage was on the
carousel by the time we got there. FYI - When you leave Costa
Rica, you have to pay an exit tax - about $23. Contact your hotel to
see if they sell it, instead of waiting in line once you return to
the airport.
The Costa
Rica Marriott Hotel San Jose van showed up
about 2 minutes after we stepped outside. The ride to the hotel was
only 10 minutes. The Marriott is very nice, great landscape, and
several places to eat. |

After resting for a bit, we got a taxi to
Le Monastere
for dinner. Because the ride to the restaurant is remote and far
away from the hotel, the taxi driver had to wait for us. The round
trip ride was $50. The restaurant is a very elegant French restaurant on the
side of a mountain. The view of San Jose at night was fantastic. The
food was average, but good service and great location. For dinner,
we both had
Chateaubriand. |

Then, off to bed - a short day in Costa Rica.
Tomorrow we have volcanoes, butterflies, waterfalls, coffee and a river
all on an eleven hour tour. |
